KEEP MUSIC LIVE!

"It was worth every penny to have live music" - Quote from a recent Stake Dance

Stuart comes from a musical background and started playing the piano himself, when just 6 years old, taking lessons from his Auntie Lesley-Margaret and remembers those early lessons with GBDF and ACE really well. His parents and grandparents sang in the Incomparable Mormon Choir of England and recorded a record, which still takes pride of place in their record collection.

As well as the piano, he has tackled other musical instruments and played euphonium and baritone (but not at the same time!) in several brass bands and competed in the South West Brass Band championships with the St. Keverne Band in 1988, just before leaving on his mission.  During his mission, he ended up as ward/branch pianist in most of the areas he served in.  He played in the University of Portsmouth orchestra and sang in the University choir. He was introduced to the acoustic guitar during his mission by his MTC and mission companion, Andrew Kilgour, and still enjoys strumming a few chords when he gets the chance.  Elder Kilgour and Elder Bray performed together in the Barrow Branch and even made a tape of some of their efforts, with Andrew on guitar and Stuart on piano. Evidence still exists - but the less said about that the better probably!

His first desires to play in a more contemporary band started at school, where he and his friends discussed creating a punk band called "A Kick In The Nephron", but never actually did more than talk about it! He was invited to try out as keyboard player for "The Connections" in Spring 2005 and has enjoyed playing with them since, despite this being a new experience to him.

He has a very varied range of musical interests and influences, as evidenced by his CD, tape and record collection, but would tend to veer more towards moderate Punk and Indie music, but also has a love of classical music!  His favourite band as he grew up was The Cure, but he enjoys listening to The Stranglers, The Damned, Pink Floyd, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Queen and more recently Moby, The Killers and the Kaiser Chiefs.
